HealthTrans is a nationally recognized pharmacy benefits administrator responsible for processing your Prescription Card and Mail Order program.

Where can I use my HealthTrans Access Prescription Card?

The HealthTrans Access prescription card is accepted at more than 58,000 pharmacies nationwide. The network of participating pharmacies includes national and regional chains, as well as thousands of independent pharmacies throughout the country. You can find a pharmacy in your area by contacting the HealthTrans Access customer care center at

I am a Canadian resident; may I use my HealthTrans Access Prescription Card in the U.S.?

Yes.

What if my pharmacy doesn’t recognize the card?

If the pharmacist does not recognize your HealthTrans Access Prescription Card, or if you have a problem at the pharmacy, ask the pharmacist to call the toll-free number printed on the front of the ID card.

How much will I pay for my prescriptions?

Your payments are $10, $25, and $50 or less for selected preferred brand and preferred generic drugs. For non-preferred drugs, you’ll pay the HealthTrans negotiated discount price.

What is my average discount on non-preferred drugs?

Members receive an average discount of 16% on non-preferred brand and non-preferred generic drugs. There is no guaranteed percentage savings on every prescription purchased. The price paid depends on the pharmacy and the type and quantity of drugs purchased. Pharmacies may have different prices on some products. Members receive either the HealthTrans Access contract price or the pharmacy’s price, whichever is lower.

What is a generic drug?

Generic medicines have the same ingredients, strength, and dosage form (pill, liquid or injection) as brand name medicines. The generic medicines have the same effect in the body, but are as much as 80% less expensive than brand name medicines. Brand name medicines can be expensive because they are made by only one manufacturer. However, generic medicines are manufactured by many companies, and this competition drives prices down. Tell your doctor that you are interested in more affordable prescription drug options and ask for generic alternatives to your medicines.

How can I keep my prescription drug costs down?

Talk with your doctor or pharmacist about generic alternatives to your current medications. By asking your doctor to prescribe a generic whenever possible, you are taking an active role in
your health and making a smart choice to receive the best prescriptions at the most affordable price.

Your pharmacist is also a great source of information about generic alternatives. Even if your medicine doesn’t have a generic equivalent, your pharmacist can help you find similar medications that are available as a generic.

How will I know if there’s a generic equivalent available?

You can ask your local pharmacist, or visit us online at http://cashcard.lc.healthtrans.com/ or call the HealthTrans Access customer care center to find out about generic equivalents for your prescription. Also, ask your doctor to prescribe generics whenever possible.

What is a preferred drug list?

A preferred drug list is a list of recommended prescription medications that is created, reviewed, and continually updated by an independent team of physicians and pharmacist. The preferred drug list contains a range of generic and brand name preferred products that have been approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Your doctor can use this list to select medications for your healthcare needs, while helping you maximize your prescription drug benefit.

What if the brand drug I am taking is not discounted?

If you are currently taking a medication that has similar active ingredients, or is used to treat the same conditions as the preferred brand drugs on the HealthTrans Access product guide, it may still be discounted. You will pay the HealthTrans negotiated price for that drug. To take advantage of the program’s potential savings on listed preferred drugs, you should ask your pharmacist (where regulations permit) or a doctor to change your medication, if appropriate, to a less expensive product listed in the product guide.

How do I contact the mail service pharmacy? Are you offering mail order?

Members can order up to a 90-day supply of medication through our convenient mail order pharmacy service for home delivery. The HealthTrans Pharmacy processes and ships all completed orders within 48 hours of receipt. Prescription drug only orders are shipped free of charge via First Class Mail. You can order your refills on your existing prescriptions by calling 1-877-839-8121.
